Side Hustler Creating Websites Between Studies

Learning from a web development side hustler.

Happy Sunday. This week, we're excited to chat with Shivansh, a talented web developer who began creating websites and apps in his early teens. His passion for technology has not only fuelled his journey but also led to the development of a successful side hustle that he juggles alongside his university studies.

In this interview, Shivansh will share his insights on:

  • Balancing the demands of academics and entrepreneurship.

  • Overcoming imposter syndrome and showing confidence in your work.

  • Turning rejection into a motivator for success.

Now, over to Shivansh!

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your side hustle?

Hey, my name is Shivansh Dengla, and I'm 20 years old from India. I’ve always been passionate about computers, ever since my father taught me how to type when I was just 5 or 6 years old. That passion led me to write my first program at 12, build my first mobile app at 14, and create my first website at 15. Over the years, I’ve turned this passion into a side hustle, making websites and innovative solutions for various clients, including NGOs. Now, I also share my journey and tips on my YouTube channel, Tricky Hustle, where I focus on freelancing, web development, and hustling.

What was your main inspiration for getting into this line of work?

My main inspiration came from my upbringing and the values my parents instilled in me, particularly the importance of financial independence. I’ve always wanted to be self-reliant, and my love for technology made freelancing and web development the perfect path. I also found great satisfaction in helping others, like when I built a website for the National Association for the Blind India for free. That experience showed me that I could use my skills to make a difference while doing something I love.

How do you balance your time between your main work and your side hustle?

Balancing my time between college and freelancing can be challenging, but I’ve found a way to make it work. No matter how busy my schedule gets, I dedicate at least two to three hours daily to coding and working on projects. My advice to anyone trying to balance a side hustle is to make time for what you love every day, even if it’s just 30 minutes. That consistency adds up and makes a big difference.

If you were to start again from scratch, what would you do differently?

If I were to start again, I would work on overcoming my shyness sooner. In the beginning, I was too shy to talk to potential clients on the phone, and I would often hang up. Learning to communicate effectively earlier on could have made things easier and helped me grow faster. But every mistake taught me something valuable, so I wouldn’t change too much.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in a similar field?

For anyone just starting, my advice is to stay persistent and keep practicing. Start with small projects, even if they don’t pay much, to build your skills and portfolio. Don’t be afraid of rejection or mistakes—they’re part of the learning process. And most importantly, make time every day for what you love to do. Consistency and persistence are the keys to success.

Where can people find you?

You can find me on YouTube under the channel name "Tricky Hustle," where I share tips and experiences about freelancing, coding, and hustling. If you know Hindi, you’ll find my content particularly helpful. I'm also on Instagram with the same name, so feel free to follow me there as well.
